Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity Breaks Ground on New Affordable Homes in Whitehouse Station

Bedminster, NJ September 2, 2025 — Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM to celebrate the start of construction on two new affordable homes at 17A and 17B James Street, Whitehouse Station, NJ 08889.

The public is invited to join local officials, community members, and Habitat volunteers as the organization begins its latest project to create affordable homeownership opportunities for low-income families.

Event Details: Date: Tuesday, September 9, 2025 Time: 10:00 AM Location: 17A and 17B James Street, Whitehouse Station, NJ 08889 RSVP: office@rvhabitat.org

Located in the heart of Whitehouse Station, each home will feature three bedrooms, one-and-a-half bathrooms, and approximately 1,350 square feet of living space. Both homes are designated low-income and will be sold for $180,000 to qualifying families. Construction is expected to be completed in April 2026.

"We are so excited to break ground for the James Street homes,” says Jessica Abbott, Executive Director of Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity. “It's harder than ever for people to find affordable housing in New Jersey right now and everyone deserves a decent place to live.”

Habitat homes are truly community projects. Volunteers and generous donors fuel every step--from funding to planning, building to homeowner support. These homes would not be possible without the generous donation of land and funds from Readington Township and funding from NJ Department of Community Affairs (DCA). Additional funding was provided by Hunterdon County (American Rescue Funds), Lowell Johnson Foundation, and Arnold Schwartz Foundation.

Homeowners are selected through an extensive application process. In addition to committing to paying regular mortgage payments, selected applicants contribute between 200 and 400 “sweat equity” hours, working on the construction site and at the Habitat ReStore, completing financial literacy training, and contributing to Habitat’s work in the office and community. Anyone interested in learning more about becoming a homeowner should visit rvhabitat.org/apply-now.
