Miles for Matheny – “A World of Caring”
Abundant Care and Community for All at Annual Celebration

April 24th, 2025 - Peapack, NJ – The Matheny School and Hospital’s signature event and largest annual fundraiser will be held on Saturday, June 7th. Matheny students, residents, staff, and surrounding community members eagerly anticipate this annual celebration as an uplifting opportunity for people with different abilities to interact in an environment of welcome, inclusivity, and accessibility for all.

In a lovely stroke of serendipity, June 7th is also the date of World Caring Day 2025a global initiative to recognize and celebrate the importance of caring for others. “Matheny is powered by caregivers – both family and staff,” says Aimee Hunnewell, Chief Development Officer. “Just like World Caring Day, we hope that Miles for Matheny is an event that encourages acts of kindness and compassion and values care in all its forms.”

This year’s Miles for Matheny celebration will take place on Matheny’s hilltop campus in Peapack. Running and walking enthusiasts can enjoy the Trail Run/Walk, sponsored by the Lavine Family. Participants will enjoy a special trail through Matheny’s property and part of the scenic and historic Blairsden estate. Children ages 3 – 13 have their own race – the Porzio Kids Fun Run and Obstacle Course. The Lu Huggins Wheelchair Walk, sponsored by the Gordon Family, is a beloved event staple and a classic element of Miles for Matheny. Matheny residents, joined by families, friends, staff, and guests, wheel along a special route through the campus. Guests can opt to be part of the Walk by pushing a wheelchair user, or choose to cheer on the walkers and rollers along the route as a show of support and community celebration.

Cyclists can also be part of the celebration thanks to a partnership with Morris Area Freewheelers and the Revolutionary Ramble, a premier New Jersey cycling event that also takes place on June 7th. Ride in the Ramble for Team Mathenyand the proceeds of your ride will benefit students and residents. When registering, be sure to select “Yes” under “Are you riding with Team Matheny?”
On the Peapack campus, Miles for Matheny 2025 features plenty of fun for the whole family. Thanks to Entertainment Sponsors Peapack Private, the Golub Family, and HJP Financial, guests can enjoy live music, carnival games, a petting zoo, a bounce house, and more. A variety of treats will be available, including the Friends of Matheny Breakfast of Champions, a BBQ lunch sponsored by the GoodWill Foundation, food trucks sponsored by C-K Control Temp, and additional treats donated by Wakefern/ShopRite.

Registration/check-in opens at 9 am. The Trail Run/Walk starts at 9:30 am and Entertainment begins at 10 am. The Kids Fun Run starts at 11 am and the high point of the event - the Lu Huggins Wheelchair Walk – begins at 11:30 am.
