Clinical Supervisor

The Clinical Supervisor will work under the supervision of the Executive Director to provide direction and coordination of assessment, referral, treatment, and outreach services. The individual will be responsible for the supervision of the counseling staff as well as the provision of therapeutic services to a caseload of clients in various treatment modalities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Interagency communication:

  • Contact principal new and existing referral sources on an ongoing basis to maintain communication and to keep referral sources updated about services throughout the state. Document outcome of new contacts per quarter.
  • Conduct or attend the following meetings: Clinical Supervision meetings for all counselors; Staff meetings; Meetings with Executive Director and Associate Director; Corporate Compliance meetings; Other meetings, as required.
  • Coordinate documentation with administrative staff to ensure timely billing for fee-for-service, Medicaid and other third party payors.

Community Relations:

  • Be available for public speaking opportunities and participate in community programs as assigned.
  • Coordinate in-service training programs.
  • Maintain relationships with referral sources, such as Recovery Court, IDRC, and more.

Internal Communications:

  • Coordinate educational lectures for all counselors regarding all aspects of addiction, chemical dependency, family systems, self-help groups, as well as training required by state regulations and accreditation standards, including cultural sensitivity and assessment.
  • Complete reports for insurance companies as needed. Complete on a timely basis NJSAMS summary (monthly), Target Population (bi-yearly), Probation Report (weekly), Employee Appraisal (yearly), Time and Attendance (bi-weekly), Status Report (quarterly), and other reports.
  • Supervise and coordinate urinalysis testing.
  • Meet with the Executive Director on a regular basis to review clinical treatment, outreach, community relations, quality assurance, and other issues.
  • Maintain a small caseload and assessments according to the need of the agency.
  • Perform individual, group, and family counseling.

Supervison Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily treatment procedures and operations. Be able to answer clinical and legal questions as they arise.
  • Supervise counseling staff: Familiarize self with all counseling staff responsibilities and hold staff accountable, including, but not limited to ensuring that counselors comply with clinic expectations for caseload size and percentage of time in clinical work, time and attendance, completion of paperwork, and responsibility for client payments.
  • Review client files monthly, make sure all records are in order and signed, and review and sign off on all agency clinical correspondence.
  • Review Federal Probation forms monthly.
  • Upon client discharge, review, and sign off on files before they are closed.
  • Orient new staff to clinical and non-clinical responsibilities, paperwork, expectations, and policies and procedures, including FDA/State regulations, issues of confidentiality, etc.
  • Responsible for staff training (a minimum six annually); develop educational and other action plans.
  • Be available for staff consultation and weekly individual supervision.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including some evening hours.
  • Oversee agency operations in absence of Executive Director and Associate Director.

Skills:

Must have a thorough, working knowledge of: Addictions; Family systems; Treatment planning and documentation; Continuum of care; 12-step and other recovery programs; ASAM criteria; NJSAMS; Clinical supervision; and Co-occurring disorders.

Must be able to: 
  • Provide professional counseling and coaching, including monitoring and training new and existing staff members’ ability in intakes, assessments, discharges and counseling.
  • Establish and maintain productive and collaborative relationships with clients, staff and community agency personnel
  • Prepare and maintain accurate reports and records.
  • Train staff in problem solving, handling emergency calls, walk-ins, and crisis situations.
  • Train staff in developing measurable and behavioral goals and objectives for treatment plans and progress notes. Assure all files are in compliance with Federal, State, and Agency guidelines.
  • With the Executive Director, develop and revise clinical and training policies, as well as review policies annually.
  • Assign duties, such as monthly urine responsibilities and emergency coverage time.
  • Review performance evaluations with staff.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree with at least two years experience working directly with Substance Use Disorder clients and their families in a treatment facility. Must possess a valid NJ LCADC or LCSW/LPC, plus Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) or Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS).

Reporting Supervisor: Executive Director
Positions Supervised: All Clinical Staff, including staff members providing HIV and prevention services.
Salary: $70,000-80,000 per year
